Ian Templeton (Ronnie Matthews) is now in his twenty-fifth year of treading the boards and in his twentieth season with TEPOS. Although he has undertaken many roles during his time with different societies, this is the first time he has been cast as an entertainer. However, many people who are familiar with his joke telling skill will not be surprised at this. So perhaps he can make it as a song and dance man instead. Oh dear! Now the choreographer has collapsed laughing.
Bill Fletcher (Wally Mason) joined TEPOS in 1987. He has played various roles, though many, for example Dr Daly (The Sorcerer), Cyril (Princess Ida) and Vernon Hines (The Pajama Game), have required intoxication with one kind of concoction or another. He is thus relieved that this will not be the case for this role, even though playing the part of Wally leaves him somewhat pickled.
Marion Terry (Myrtle Martin) has been involved with many operatic societies, playing Elsa Schraeder in the Sound of Music, Widow Corny in Oliver, Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof and Mrs Higgins in My Fair Lady. She also sung the part of Dolly in Hello Dolly in the open air extravaganza Musical Nights. Marion also sings in concerts throughout the area.
Suzanne Dean (Penelope 'Poppy' Day) is now in her third show with TEPOS. She was a flittling fairy for Iolanthe in 2003 and played the part of Chava in last year's production of Fiddler on the Roof. Suzanne also performs with Hulviz and has had principal roles in Summer Song (Milli) and Meet Me in St Louis (Rose). She has enjoyed being the saucy soubrette at the end of the pier this year.
Jill Ody (Phyllis Hatch) made her first solo performance at the tender age of 6 - singing about a donkey ride at the seaside. Life has now come full circle and she is doing it again. Jill is pleased, however, not to be typecast in this show and will not be seen giggling like a schoolgirl.
Alan Ingram (Bill Williams) is appearing in his first TEPOS production and he and the 'Ingrams' have all enjoyed working with old and new friends. Alan is also an active member of the Bob Hope Theatre and appeared in panto in 2003/04 and the World Premiere of After the Rain, last May.
Rose Walker (Kitty Morgan) has been a member of TEPOS for ages - well, since 1985 - and has performed on stage for the Society every year since then, except one. When she was offered the part of Mlle. Didon in the sketch "the Office", she thought of eating loads of garlic and growing her armpit hair but decided to watch endless episodes of Allo Allo instead! She has found The End of the Pier Show quite a challenge - with lots of new songs to learn and tap dancing to perfect, quite apart from the French accent. It's been great fun! Formidable! Tres bien! Rose chose the name Kitty Morgan for her character as this is the name of an auntie who was born in 1912, Auntie Kit. She is still going strong.
Conrad Simpson (Reg Carter) made his debut with TEPOS in he 2003 production of Iolanthe and has been an active member since. Performances with other companies include plays and musicals, amongst others The Winslow Boy and Annie. Conrad has also appeared in many a pantomime.
Christopher Betterton (Lennie Richards) joined TEPOS in 1995 after a year celebrating Blackheath's Concert Hall's Centenary in HMS Pinafore and Iolanthe. His first TEPOS role was the Heavenly Friend in Carousel, which was a non-singing part but he didn't take the hint. Subsequent roles include Freddy (My Fair Lady), Prez (The Pajama Game), Strephon (Iolanthe) and with Sidcup OS, Tommy (Brigadoon). Christopher would like to point out that once again he has been cast against type - as most of the roles he has played have been either spoilt brats or womanisers or both!
Alayna Ingram (Sarah King) is appearing in her first show with TEPOS. However, she has been a member of the Bob Hope Theatre for eight years and has worked on several shows each year both on and back stage. Alayna is fulfilling an ambition by combining dance, song and acting in one role. She is also overjoyed at appearing with Mum and Dad.
Jackie Templeton (Shirley Clarke) first trod the boards with TEPOS in 1971 and has either been in or worked backstage on every production since. She has worked with most other societies but now finds an ever increasing amount of time is taken up delivering and collecting her children from their rehearsals.
Ian & Sue Wootton (Charles Walsingham & Sabina Hayes) met in a semi-pro Cabaret group in 1970 (Sue singing and Ian playing guitar and piano) and played all the top London Hotels until 1978 (when they had their first child). Sue then joined TEPOS and has played many principal roles, including Nancy in Oliver, Zeitel in Fiddler on the Roof, Buttercup in HMS Pinafore, Edith and Ruth in separate Pirates of Penzance productions. Ian is forsaking the side lines to take part in his first show with TEPOS, though after assisting with musical arrangements for "Music from the Movies" he hasbeen a member of the "Concert Party" for several years.
Pat Cox (Emily Kirtland) has been a member of TEPOS for 25 years. Her stage debut was in Aladdin. Over the years she has been in most TEPOS shows but usually in the chorus. Pat loves being involved with TEPOS and enjoys singing very much, even getting up the nerve to solo in a few concerts.
Barbara Archer (Director) studied singing at Blackheath Conservatoire and took a Theatre Arts Course at Goldsmith's College. She has directed over 50 musicals, operettas and operas for various companies in the South-East and has played principal roles in 65 others. In 2003, she was soloist in Musical Nights - a spectacular open-air event in Woolwich with the Royal Artillery Band - playing to 2,000 people per night. She is currently working on Orpheus in the Underworld to be performed at the Bob Hope Theatre by Ferrier Operatic Society in May 2005.
Alan Thompson (Musical Director) is a native of Jarrow but came south at an early age; having decided to make a career out of music, he hasn't been able to afford the journey back! Alan spent 28 years with the Royal Artillery Band, where he played piano, cello and clarinet (not all at the same time) and has been musical director of every TEPOS show and concert since 1971. He classes himself as a "musical navvy" and will turn his hand to most things.
Sharon Filmer (Choreographer) makes a welcome return to TEPOS as choreographer. She started dancing when she was 5 and unlike most girls managed to maintain her dancing past the age of 16. After the initial experience of sorting out dancing for TEPOS Tarantara! Tarantara! Sharon got the bug and has danced in many shows over the last 10 years before taking time out to take professional veternary exams. In 2004 the lure of stage beckoned once more as she returned to play Grandma Tzeitel in TEPOS' Fiddler on the Roof and choreograph Hulviz' Anything Goes.
